Speaker
Our speaker was Mayor Perciak. The discussion started with the Mayor and Brent Painter talking about the business expo and how well represented the Rotary Club was there. The expo, which was orginially started by the Rotary Club and held at Camp Cheerful was held up as an example of how the business community and city come together to make the city a vibrant community. Since the city depends largely on income tax for it's funds it works hard to identify and attract good businesses.
This was followed by an update on the Town Center Initiative, which broke ground earlier in the year. Over a million visitors come to the center of town every year for various events, and the initiative aims to enhance the area by improving both accessibility and the quality of facilities there. The project is largely possible due to grants from civic groups and businesses in the city along with county and state money.
Next Chief Draves of the fire department explained the need for a fifth fire station in the center of town. This should allow faster response times in many cases, especially with the anticipated increase in visitors to the town center, and also provide more coverage when more than one call comes in at the same time.
