Meeting Recap
George Tomko gave the invocation and led the pledge.
Membership Moment
Ashley led our "Name That Rotarian" game this week. Don't forget to reply to Ashley if she asks you for some personal information.
VFW Golf Outing
The VFW Golf Outing will be August 11th, that the club will be sponsoring. Jim Karecki has forms if you want to golf. Please let John know if you will be golfing on the 11th as it does conflict with our Friday meeting, so we can adjust the food appropriately.
Speaker
Our speaker was Lisa Kime from Golden Retrievers in Need (GRIN). They rescue dogs in need, and educate about responsible dog ownership, and the problems of puppy mills.
All of their rescue dogs go into foster homes and receive a through veterinary care checkup and treatment. Vet bills are the largest expense for the group, as they are an entirely volunteer organization.
Most of the rescue dogs do need veterinary care as the puppy mills do not provide care, even at the most basic level. The dog Lisa brought with her, that she is fostering, Radar, is blind due to an infection, that could have been treated for $20. Most of the dogs from puppy mills they rescue have some kind of infection.
The big take away was to know where the dog you are buying comes from, and don't buy online. Rather find a reputable breeder, and meet the parents of the dog, and see where the dog lives (not just the barn where you are shown the dog), and ask to see health certifications.
End Polio Now Baseball Game
Districts 6630, 6650 and 6600 have organized a baseball game to benefit End Polio Now on August 17th against the Tigers. There are a variety of ticket options available that you can
order online. Also talk to Bruce Kahn about tickets to win the chance to throw out the first pitch at a future game.
