Text Update Service
The club does now have a text messaging system so we can send important updates out to the club. We anticipate 1 or 2 messages a week at most, for example reminders of Friday meetings and location changes. If you want to subscribe text "ROTARY" followed by your name to (833) 285-6105. Your name will help if you have any questions or for support.
Chili Open
Support the Strongsville Rotary and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with a chance to win $10,000 at https://chiliopen.com/raffle
Ashley and TJ are also visiting other Rotary Clubs and promoting both raffle and admission tickets.
In addition we are in search of corporate sponsors and auction items. For auction items they are asking for at least $100 value on gift cards etc, although smaller ones will be appreciated and combined as part of a bundle. Ideal items include: Trips, Tickets to events, Sports memorabilia, Spa Treatments, and Unique Experiences.
Saturday we'll be visiting businesses on Pearl and Royalton with a poster push. Let TJ or Ashley know if you can help. Meeting at 11am at Triv's.
There is an event packet you can email to friends, family and business contacts at https://chiliopen.info/pdf which includes event information, auction request form, and sponsorship form.
Our speaker was Andrew Kuzmickas, the special education coordinator for the Strongsville City Schools, talking about the PBIS program, which is Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. It is a program that is state mandated and is designed to improve behavior from all students in the school.
This is achieved by both having positive rewards for good behavior, as well as consistent consequences for negative behavior.
One procedure instituted school wide by Principal Wingler is a cell phone policy, so every class room has a cell phone caddy that holds the students cell phones during class to prevent distractions and disruptions. Another is a mandatory hall pass system.
The current program has been in existence for a couple of years, and has already seen a significant improvement in referrals, both an increase in positive and decrease in negative.
