Parking Lot Resurfacing
The parking lot at the senior center is being resurfaced over the next couple of weeks in sections, so your favorite spot might not be available.
Queen of Hearts
Chuck Cury' table won the drawing.  They are responsible for setting up next week.  There are 22 cards left in the deck and the Queen is worth $967.
Club Elections
Club elections are in three weeks.  If you are interested in serving as a director or officer of the club let Barry Kuzmickas know.  Directors serve a two-year term, and officers are a one-year term.  If you have any questions ask Barry or any current board member.
Chili Open Social Media
In a bid to increase engagement on social media we would like to create some original content to post.  Some ideas are favorite jokes that are (however tangentially) related to the Chili Open, silly golf swings, or any other entertaining content.  Ideally these will all be video, and if you need help taking the video reach out to John Turnbull.  If you have jokes and don't want to tell the joke on camera, send it in, and we'll have someone tell the joke.  If you want to be on camera let John know as well.
Philippine Watershed Project
Dr Art Basa sent a progress report on the "ADOPT-A-WATERSHED" - ABACAN WATERSHED REFORESTATION project launched by the Rotary Club of Angeles on January 18, 2024, in Sitio Balaru, Barangay Sapangbato, Angeles City, Pampanga. The project aims to reforest watersheds within the Pampanga River Basin to ensure a sustainable water supply and mitigate global warming. Key points include:

1. Launch and Coordination: The project is in partnership with ARAW-ACI and KAAPKA, with funding from the Rotary Club of Strongsville, Ohio, USA.
2. Execution: An initial 200 seedlings were planted during the launch, with a total of 1,000 seedlings planned. The local aeta community will maintain the area.
3. Monitoring: Approximately US$500 has been used so far, with remaining funds allocated for the project's three-year duration. Challenges include water supply issues due to El Nino and rocky terrain.
4. Conclusion: The project has made good progress despite challenges, providing both environmental benefits and livelihood opportunities for the local aeta community. Future plans include exploring solar-powered water systems to improve irrigation.

Speaker

The Rotary Club meeting centered around organizing and planning for this year's Chili Open event. Here’s a summary of the main points discussed:

  • Event Goals and Participation: The goal is 100% participation from all Rotarians, whether through attendance, volunteering, or donations. Members are encouraged to respond to outreach emails and actively recruit two new potential sponsors or donors.

  • Fundraising Status: The club has already raised over $18,000 in corporate sponsorships, nearing half of last year's total. Additional pledges are expected to bring total corporate contributions close to $40,000.

  • VIP and General Admission Tickets:

    • 70 VIP tickets are already reserved, with a cap set at 150.
    • General admission and VIP ticket packages include special raffle tickets as part of a new incentive to encourage early sales and participation.
  • Auction and Donations:

    • Members are encouraged to secure high-value auction items, focusing on experiences rather than physical goods. Previous successful items included vacation packages and exclusive experiences.
    • The club has received support for auction items from various sources and aims to improve package quality over quantity.
  • Sponsorship Incentives:

    • Sponsors receive a set number of VIP tickets and raffle entries based on their donation level. There are incentives for early sponsorship, with a cutoff for benefits after January 1.
  • Social Media and Content Creation:

    • Members are urged to contribute content, such as personal stories, event photos, and testimonials, to boost online visibility. Sharing experiences and tagging the Chili Open on social platforms is highly encouraged.
  • New Sustainability Efforts:

    • A sustainability chair position has been created to coordinate recycling and waste management, responding to previous feedback about event sustainability.
    • This role involves liaising with the fairgrounds and vendors to implement recycling programs.
  • Raffle and Prizes:

    • The event will include a raffle with top cash prizes ($10,000 for first place). Rotarians and LLS student teams are encouraged to sell raffle tickets, with a portion of the proceeds supporting scholarships.
  • Pro Shop and Merchandise:

    • Merchandise options now include various items like hats, shirts, and higher-tier gifts (hoodies, quarter-zips) available for purchase in the Pro Shop.
    • The pre-order system aims to reduce waste and ensure that attendees receive items they prefer.
  • Beneficiaries:

    • The main beneficiary of this year's proceeds is again the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries. The raised funds will be split, with a third going to the foundation, another third to the club, and the final third to LLS.
