Meeting Recap

High School Students

Students from the Career Exploration Program came to visit Friday.  The program lets students learn more about careers they are interested in, and includes shadowing and other experiences in that career so they can make a more informed choice about their career.

New Member Inductions

On Friday we inducted two new members of the club, returning member Amy Kocian sponsored by Ken Dooner, and Dave Shuey sponsored by Dan Cricks.  If you did not get a chance to welcome them to the club Friday please do so next time you see them.

Bob Schmieler stood in for Dan Cricks during the induction.

Birthdays

Michele Lynch led our birthday recognitions for our November Birthdays for the following Rotarians: Manny Garcia, Bill Walsh, Barb Stettnisch, Beth Seese, Jamie Nixon, Brent Painter and Jerry Balint.  Brent was the lucky winner of the drawing.

Blue Badges

Kevin Lynch presented a blue badge to two members who had gone through the red badge process, Barry Kuzmickas and Ravi Velu.  Congratulations to the newest blue badge members.

Speaker

Our speaker was Dr Cameron Ryba, superintendent of the Strongsville Schools.

Dr Ryba praised the financial stewardship of the district, led by member George Anagnostou, which was able to reduce the cost of the bond for the middle school construction and high school renovation by 14 million dollars, and the school is on sound footing in their 5 year forecast.
Enrollment in the district had been declining over the past decade, but it is forecase to begin picking up again, which will require looking at options to expand the elementary school capacity.
