Queen of Hearts

Kevin Crocker's table won the The Queen of Hearts drawing.  They are responsible for putting up the banners and selling tickets this week.  The Queen is worth $127, and there are 47 cards left.

Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny Event will be this Saturday March 26th in the Event Center.  Tom Drost is chairing the event, and looking for 5 volunteers to help out.  You can sign up at volunteer/managevolunteercontacts?volunteersignupid=870017f7-3c36-42f1-b082-cee1e42191c4&accountid=4880, at the meeting Friday, or by contacting Tom Drost directly.

Beer/Wine Fest Committee Meeting

There will be a committee meeting after Friday's meeting at the senior center if you are interested in being involved with the beer/wine fest.

Kids Fest Duck Race Committee

The next committee meeting for the Kids Fest Duck Race will be on April 5th at the Senior Center.  We are still looking for several people to help coordinate various sub-committees, including signage, duck numbering, and the duck decorating competition.  If you are interested in helping please contact Rick Weiser.

Ukraine Relief Fund

Thanks to everyone who shared the Facebook Post or story on our website stories/ukraine-relief-fund.  So far we have received donations of approximately $10,000 in addition to the money collected at the club meetings and pledged by members.  There is still about 10 days to collect donations before Pat and Brian head to Poland.

Meeting Recap

On Saturday, March 19th, there was a club social at Eighty-Three Brewery in Akron.

Student Group
Students who participate in the "Mr Mustang" competition were at our meeting.  Students create campaigns and videos for various causes, and the student body votes for the winner who is dubbed "Mr. Mustang".
Jeff Ellis Gave His Bio
Jeff has been involved in Karate almost his entire life.  He started learning karate, and competing in tournaments as a teenager.  Even though he started his career as a salesman he took his love for karate and turned that into his business, including a karate school as well as regularly teaching self defense workshops for women, including incoming students at Baldwin Wallace.  He also uses does charity fundraising and community events, including the child safe day.
 
He is married to Antoinette, despite losing his wedding ring in the ocean during his honeymoon, and has 3 daughters.  He is also the author of two books, and enjoys fishing. 
 
Speaker
Jeff Sanicki of The Gathering Place was our speaker, sharing how the Gathering Place provides services to those suffering from cancer.  The services include education, support and individual consultations, massage and a wig salon.
 
Stories
Ukraine Relief Fund
With the ongoing situation in Ukraine the Strongsville Rotary Foundation has committed to an initial donation of $2,000 and club members have donated an additional $2,000 to be used to aid the refugees from Ukraine.
 
Our own Pat Greco has taken it on himself to visit Poland early next month to meet with Rotarians there, see where the need is the greatest, and volunteer is talents and skills developed while working for EMS where ever it is needed there.

Strongsville Rotary Foundation Scholarships
The Strongsville Rotary Foundation will award several college scholarships to high school seniors who live in Strongsville. One is reserved for a parochial student and one is reserved for a Polaris student. In addition, scholarships of various amounts will be awarded to students in the Connections Program,

Applications are available in the High School Guidance office or download the Scholarship Application form here.

Applications must be RECEIVED by Rotary by Wednesday, April 5 2022 to be considered. Mailing instructions are on the applications.
