Speaker

Dr Michael Decker of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine visited with his colleague Dr Lisa Damato.  They co-created an aerospace physiology program at Case, which as a first phase is offering a 1 year graduate certificate, and in the fall will be starting a 2 year Master's Degree.  Most medical programs focus on abnormal bodies under normal conditions, whereas with the growing aerospace industry, including private companies, space tourism etc, there is a need to understand normal bodies in abnormal conditions.

Dr Decker also talked about improving sleep quality, as before returning to Case in the aerospace physiology field he ran a sleep clinic, and also did research with the CDC into sleep.  30% of Americans suffer from insomnia, and also discussed snoring and sleep apnea, both of which are big contributors to poor sleep, resulting in poor performance while awake.
