January 7, 2011 meeting

Getting started. Bryan Regiec gave the invocation to start the club's January 7 meeting. President Jerry Balint led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and it was on.

Guests. Bea Hovanec introduced our guests, the members of the Strongsville High School Spanish Club, as well as Brenda Castelan, our foreign exchange student from Mexico. Joining us from the Spanish club were Robert Cook, Mary Hess, Amy McNelis and Melissa Petrick, along with their adviser, Mrs. Cynthia Sejka.


Chili Charities. Chili Open Charities Committee Chairman Paul Richards reported that a record number of charities applied to receive Chili Open proceeds this year. This year's selected recipients are:Chili Auction. Auction Chairman Andy Motz said we are in need of more auction items. So far big ticket items include two round-trip tickets on Continental Airlines and, from where I was sitting, it sounded like a trip to Puerto Vallarta, so we'll go with that until somebody tells me I got it wrong.

Holes and Tees. Hole and Tee Czar Val Tocci made a pitch for hole and tee sponsors. Holes are $300 and Tees are $200. Bill Gordon chimed in that the smaller sponsorships add up to a lot of mula. You can download a sponsorship form here.

Chili Open Raffle. Everybody in the club got a package of 10 books of raffle tickets. If you don't sell all 10 the goon squad will beat the crap out of you at the meeting on February 11.

Member Bio. Carol Dombrose, of Angel House, said she's had three lives. Carol was married out of high school and had children early. She went to college part time and earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology. In 1991 she married Lawrence, her second husband. He was a psychologist whom she worked for. He passed away in 2001. That's when Carol began her third life, having to figure out how to do a lot of things she never did before. Carol continues to live at and operate Angel House Center for Creative Life Changes. Changes come to us whether we want them to or not, she observed. Carol also graduated from clown school in 1984 but unlike most of her classmates she has not been elected to public office.
